Balinese Wall Plaques

balinese-plaques-upd We recently spent time with a client here in Bali who was a big fan of Balinese Wall Plaques.

In the past, not a product line we’ve really focused upon (you can see the original series by clicking here) but we decided after the client had left to pay a little more attention… and the result?

Over 100 new models — mostly the wall mounted, albesia wood plaques but also a fair selection of free standing statues in the same style along with a few miscellaneous pieces at the very end of the presentation (statues with built-in baskets… pretty cool).

Hope you enjoy the update:

Surfboard Update from Indonesia Export

We’ve just uploaded 35 new models of surfboard.

This time, we’ve avoided the airbrushed Bali or Hawaiian scenes and gone for something a little more primitive… almost tattoo-like. All made from pine wood & hand painted.

Balinese Parasite Pine Wood Carvings

Our first batch of Parasite Wood Carvings were added to our catalogue back in 1998 (my, how time flies) and we’re still working with the same carver. That should tell you something about the enduring popularity of the product line not to mention the quality of the work.

For these additions, we’ve tried to concentrate on small pieces rather than the super expensive large aquarium carvings and multiple horse scenes (although, personally, I find those larger pieces outstanding).

Woven Products Update

Every day, you’ll see people in Bali bring small offerings to the little temples that front the homes and businesses around the island. The small offerings themselves (usually rice, some fruit and so on) are carried in small woven baskets and trays made from Pandan Leaf (known locally as “Ental“).

It’s a local skill on Bali — seems like everywhere you look, someone is putting one of these cute little baskets, bags or trays together.

Recently Shipped Items (not in our usual catalogue)

dragon-medallion We’ve just uploaded 250 or so new products to the catalogue based on a single shipment to Europe last month.

For one reason or another, you won’t have seen these pieces in our catalogue — they’re based on special requests, slight changes to existing designs and so on.

I hope you’ll find this interesting on a  few different levels:

We ship a lot more than you see in the catalogue (this batch of products is really just a small sample).

It’s always interesting to see what other people are really buying.

Most of these items are pretty small and would work pretty cost-effectively for container or LCL (but not air freight).

And, finally, yes: we really do custom work.

Check them out at:

Enjoy,

Bali Rattan Furniture from Indonesia Export

rattan-furnitureThe term ‘rattan’ covers hundreds of different species of palms — these are not trees but plants similar to vines — they also look a lot like bamboo but are not hollow.

Most of the world’s rattan can be found in Indonesia.

When it comes to the jungles and forests of Indonesia, rattan provides an environmentally friendly (here I go again) alternative to solid wood furniture — it’s a fast-growing, profitable crop that can be used in place of trees.

Rattan is suitable for furniture because it is lightweight, durable, and quite flexible. Like wood, it can be stained or painted.

I used to think rattan and wicker, by the way, were the same thing: they’re not.

Rattan, as mentioned above, is a plant. Wicker, on the other hand is more of a process — wicker is any fiber (including the core of rattan), wet, bent and woven into a useful object.

Enough with the lesson, you’ll find the whole range online at:

Furniture — Rattan

Please note, prices (which you can see after logging in) do not include cushions, pillows, mattresses or glass tops — we decided to not complicate the pricing but also, we know, everyone has different needs when it comes to those finishing touches… thickness of glass, safety glass vs. plate… thick cushions vs. thin cushions and so on. If you need to order the cushions and glass from us, please just advise your needs and we’ll get that done for you.
